What’s the value of being real in the digital age?

This week, at I Am Here, we’re asking: What’s the value of being real in the digital age?

  • When so much of what we see and read is AI-generated, how do we recognise what is genuinely human?
  • If AI can think, write, and create, what do we want to hold onto as uniquely ours?
  • As everything AI-related becomes more polished, will people start to value what feels real instead?

Real is the final of our CLEAR skills. And in many ways, it may become the most important.

We’re entering a time where we don’t always know if what we’re reading or responding to is human. Content is generated at scale. Conversations are shaped by prompts.

This, however, only increases the value of what is Real.

In a world of noise, real cuts through. It builds trust. And over time, it stands out.

Being real will be a premium in the years ahead.

What Are We Watching This Week?

This week, we’re watching How AI Slop Will Spark the Next Human Renaissance, by After Skool.

This beautifully hand-drawn video is well worth the 12 minutes of your time.

It explores the trade-offs of new technologies and asks a simple but powerful question: if AI can do everything faster and cheaper, what is left for us?

The answer is hopeful. As artificial output increases, the value of what is human, creativity, meaning, authenticity, may increase too.

What Are We Reading This Week?

This week, we’re reading How To Be Authentic In The Age Of AI, by Tomas Chamorro-Premuzic, published in Forbes.

As AI begins to mirror human thinking and behaviour, the line between human and machine is becoming harder to see.

So, what sets us apart?

The article points to authenticity. Not perfection, but being genuinely human, in our judgement, values, and lived experience.

Who Are We Quoting This Week?

“The privilege of a lifetime is to become who you truly are.”

– Carl Gustav Jung

In a world of imitation and optimisation, this feels more relevant than ever.

Being real may not be the fastest path. But it is the one that builds trust, connection, and meaning.

At I Am Here, being Real is not just a value. It is a skill we can work on.

As AI continues to shape how we live and work, the real question is what we choose to hold onto. Being Real might just be the difference.
