What’s it like to live with toxic masculinity?

What does a culture of toxic masculinity do to us? How can it impact us? Is it always a bad thing?

Kieran Toohey from Open Arms – Veterans and Families Counselling spoke to us about his experience with toxic masculinity. He tells us that he was the definition of toxic masculinity during his time in the military. He continued to see signs of it when he then worked in the construction and mining industries.

He found that the more toxic and masculine he became, the more he needed care, help, and support. It was impacting him negatively, and in hindsight, he can now see that. His story tells us that toxic masculinity can be consuming and harmful.
